This article will show you how to update / modify mail server hostname or update email account password on Microsoft Outlook. Please kindly refer to the guide below:

Step-by-step:

1. Open Control Panel and click on Mail ( Microsoft Outlook ).

2. Mail Setup window pops up.

3. Click on Email Accounts button, Account Settings pops up. From the Email tab, double-click on the email account you would like to modify.

4. From the Email Account Configuration window, you can modify or update the following settings accordingly:

  • Incoming mail server – Usually, mail.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) – Usually, mail.yourdomain.com
  • Password

Next, click on More Settings … button

5. Once More Settings … button is clicked, the Internet Email Settings window pops up.

Click on Outgoing Server tab, tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication with the default selection for Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

6. Next, click Advanced tab. Ensure all the connections are configured to use secured port as listed below:

IMAP Account Type

  • Incoming Server ( IMAP ) Port : 993 & SSL / TLS Encrypted
  • Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port : 465 & SSL / TLS Encrypted
  • Or, Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port : 587 & STARTTLS Encrypted

POP Account Type

  • Incoming Server ( POP ) Port : 995 & SSL / TLS Encrypted
  • Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port : 465 & SSL / TLS Encrypted
  • - Or, Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port : 587 & STARTTLS Encrypted

7. Once done, back to Email Account Configuration window.

8. Click Next button and Outlook will test your email account configuration. When all tests successfully completed. You’re good to go.

9. You’ve completed it successfully.
